Spicerhaart’s recent research claims that only 10% of homebuyers read the Home Information Pack (HIP). In response to this, Paul Broadhead from the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) said it was too early to draw any definite conclusions about the way homebuyers use HIPs as the industry is only half way through the rollout. He went on to say that homebuyers are not being advised that HIPs are available in the majority of cases so they simply cannot read them.
Broadhead added:”Buyers are not being given a HIP automatically, instead they are having to request it specifically from the Estate Agent - so this figure does not surprise me.”
AHIPP, which hipsandhcrs are members of, has just issued an updated version of our HIP handling guide which states that as soon as estate agents receive the HIP it should be made available to homebuyers; this will help ease the situation.

It was announced today at the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) Annual Conference that the full rollout of home information packs has been put on hold due to the current market conditions. Iain Wright, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Housing and Planning broke the news while addressing the conference, he stated that housing market volatility was the only reason for postponing the rollout of HIPS again. He went on to say that the HIP rollout would not be completed until the housing market stabalised once again. This is disappointing news for the HIP industry in the short term, but long term housing stability is much more important.

It has been reported that the implementation of HIPS (Home Information Packs) has suffered another setback after it became apparent that some mortgage lenders started to refuse critical parts of the info packs. Industry commentators stated that homebuyers would need to pay £200 for their own local authority searches because those provided in the home information pack cannot be trusted.
